CIRCLE INVERSIONS

15. March 2012

Painter Igor Bravničar exhibited 4 lightboxes from the Circle Inversions series at Atelje Galerija. They are based on the classically-produced work (oil on canvas) that serves as a formal reproducer (matrix) or as the reference original. Bravničar translates them into a completely different medium, thereby entering the field of digital art. Goran Milovanović wrote that this is what Marcel Duchamp in his dialectics called interval – production of the same as a negativity. Bravničar’s process is an extremely disciplined colouristic mantra, a stylisation of the original form, where the redefinition of colouristic accents results in visual changes to the original image to the extent that it no longer resembles itself.
The matrix for the Inversions in the square shape of the lightboxes is the oil painting Restrictive Circle from Bravničar’s series Horizons and Transitions.
